We purchased this hoard from an older man who decided it was time to sell. The collection was put together by his father, who was The President of the First National Bank Of Montana during the turn of the century through the mid 1900's.  During his time at the bank he would pull out any nice or key dated silver coins he saw go by. That explains why there appears to be a good amount of nice silver coins from the early 1900's and even some dating back to the early
1800's.
Everyday, up until the metal change in 1964, he would add to his hoard of Silver Coins.
Due to his high status and wealth, he was one of the
very, very few
who could still afford to stash away so many coins like these when the Great Depression rolled around in the 1930's. When most people during the depression only had a few nickels in their pockets, he was hoarding thousands of coins in his barrels. What an incredible history these coins have had, absolutely phenomenal!
