Description
Offered here for your bidding pleasure is this vintage 1940’s miniature Ethel Strong Twinky dollhouse baby doll! This is an early plastic dollhouse borne of a cottage industry established by an early female entrepreneur who was way ahead of her time. The cottage industry model provided jobs for many in the community, allowing them to work from their homes. Ms. strong employed local women, and even some of their children, in the manufacture of her line of doll house dolls. The fine painting of the tiny facial features was left up to the adults, but the children might paint the on the shoes. The clothes were fastidiously sewn by the local seamstresses. This 2” baby is just one member of an extended family of sweet little dolls for the dolls house. The baby is elastic string jointed with metal pins at the shoulders and hips, and wears all original clothing. Note the charming and time-consuming details of the costume, with delicate blue embroidery on the Swiss dot fabric, and armholes finished in a tiny blanket stitch. The shoes are painted blue to match. So sweet!
For size reference and study, this Twinky baby is shown with several dollhouse props and other dolls, as well as being photographed in different lighting situations. Further, for your enhanced enjoyment and edification, in the last picture I show two more examples from the Twinky doll family—a darling brother and sister pair! None of these dolls or other items are included here, but are merely presented for your study and viewing enjoyment.
