    Rare Antique leather bound IOOF - Independent Order of OddFellows edition of
    Holy Bible
    This is a rare and pristine IOOF edition of a Holman Pictorial Family Bible - Self Explanatory edition of the Old and New Testaments, with marginal references. There are presentation pages for both the specific Lodge and different degrees of the initiate. Hundreds of illustrations and many color lithographs and maps are also within this gorgeous piece.
    The black tooled leather cover has a stunning imprint of the Maltese Cross, with other Masonic symbols intertwined within the cross, including an
    All seeing Eye and Freemason three link chain; Skull and Bones; Masonic handshake with Ahisma Hand; a serpent climbing a column with sword; and what appears to be the Mesopotamian Goddess Istar.
    No copyright date can be found; however the latest two dates of inserts are a 1903 article entitled "
    The Temple Library and School at Nipur Babylonia
    " by H. V. Hilprecht, and a picture of
    The Angel Appearing To Mary - St. Luke 1.28
    copyright 1904 by F. A. Ackermann. Whereas other bibles of this era have copyright dates on the reference face page, this one only has the imprint name "Browns".
    There are 1380 gold gilt pages of the Old and New Testament plus much more, including:
    • 49 pages entitled Four Thousand Questions of the Old and New Testaments;
    • Bible Stories For Young People copyright 1890 by A. J. Holman & Co;
    • The Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Rev. James Stalker, copyright 1888 by J. A. Holman & Co. (illustrated);
    • Biographical sketches of the Translators and Reformer;
    • A self pronouncing dictionary of scripture proper names;
    • Patriarchs, Priests, Prophets, and Kings, or Striking Characters, Scenes and Events of Old Testament History by James Boyd;
    • Index to the First line of Evangelists and Decons;
    • Concordance to the Old and New Testaments by John Brown.  Hundreds of illustrations and many color lithographs and maps;
    • and more!
    Book measures 12.5" long x 10" wide x 5" in depth. Weighs about 12 lbs. The Family Record and presentation sections have no entries.
    The leather cover is in extraordinary condition.  The spine on front cover only has some damage & is separated but not completely. The binder is still holding the top cover together. No pages are loose or torn. No water damage. See pictures.
