Navajo Pictorial Rug

Description

Vintage pictorial weaving by famous Navajo weaver Florence Riggs. This is a true work of craftsmanship and weaving skill a "Rug within a rug". A traditional Navajo "Chiefs Blanket" frames a "typical" Navajo day on the Reservation. Set in Monument Valley with one of the famous "mittens" in the background, cows and horses grazing while a Navajo weaver weaves a Klagetoh red rug and a Navajo silversmith works at his forge on a sterling concho belt. Note the "twill" of the wool on the loom and the flowering desert shrubs. The scene is reminiscent of early postcard scenes, the hogan even has a traditional rug door covering. Signed FR.
